Fatwa Against Forced Vaccination

Scholars of Mauritania Issue Fatwa Against Forced Vaccinations-Translated by Dr. Abdullah bin Hamid Ali

There is no doubt that the refusal of medical treatment, placing one’s reliance upon Allah and acceptance of what He decrees, is among matters endorsed by the revealed law.

Fatwa Against Forced VaccinationsTweet

More countries and governments, including Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, are taking drastic steps to force and compel people to take the COVID-19 vaccine. Do Muslims have any recourse in Islamic law to oppose forced vaccinations?
A qualified team of Muslim scholars from Mauritania teamed up to provide a compelling argument against forced vaccinations. This fatwa has been translated with additional explanatory notes by Dr. Abdullah bin Hamid Ali, the Founding Director of the Lamppost Education Initiative and an Associate Professor of Islamic Law at Zaytuna College.

Special Note: The translation of this fatwa is not intended to oppose or discourage anyone from taking the COVID-19 vaccination. The Lamppost Education Initiative does not endorse nor oppose COVID-19 vaccinations.
